Man is it cold, or what!

Went down to Huntington Beach today, they were having a kite festival. Yesterday was nice and sunny, all the clouds were gone...nothing in the weather forecast until Tuesday. Yeah, right. There were nice white puffy clouds in the sky this morning, and by the time we got to HB, it was yucky overcast and drizzling off-and-on. Not a huge turnout, but we got to watch some cool stunt kites and eat lunch at Ruby's on the pier. By the time we got out, the clouds were starting to break up and some of the sun was showing through. But really cold!!

The view from the end of the pier, looking back onto the beach. The sky is starting to clear up.

Some really cool - and very big - kites. One was a giant fish, and one was a giant dragon. Reminded me of Mushu from the movie Mulan.

These seven guys were practicing some really cool synchronized kite flying with their stunt kites.

It's a Boys Life for Me

Well, we started off the new year with three of the boys joining Scouts, more specifically, Tiger Cubs, Weblos, and Boy Scouts. All three of them said they only wanted to join so they could shoot a bow and arrow and shoot a BB gun. I figure if they shoot their eye out while on a campout, let's let BSA cover them. And since I actually remembered what "Weblos" stood for and none of them knew, it was time to get them in.

Kevin is stoked because his troop goes camping once a month. His first campout was to somewhere near Palm Springs / Joshua tree, on the coldest nights of the winter - I think it was down to 28. I was freezing in my own bed! Of course, he didn't wear the long johns he took along with him. Matt likes his troop of three kids, and has actually made Bobcat. Jacob thinks it is "stupid, cause all we do is talk, and then play for the rest of the time." Gotta get him out on a trip.

We went last week to our first "Bleu and Glod" dinner (spelling courtesy of the flyer we were given). It was at the Buena Park Elks Lodge - a time capsule of the 60's and 70's if ever I've seen one. The boys had fun scooting around on the dance floor on their knees. Unfortunately, my pictures are lost somewhere - could have sworn that I had them, but I don't. Well, I'm sure that won't be the last of them.

In the Beginning...

OK, so you gotta start somewhere, right? I love my scrapbooking, but the lure of staying out for whole evenings with the girls and pondering over which of the 5 of the 100's of pictures to put on a scrapbook page hasn't beckoned in about 3 years or so. And whenever I have tried to open things up at home, I am always met with at least two boys wanting to raid my stickers to decorate something in their bedroom (a wall, a bed, their desk), or at least cut the heads off my photos to glue on to a magazine ad. If it were a Vogue model's body instead of a Dove ad, that might be OK, but alas, that is never the case. And then it's dinner-time and I gotta put everything away.

Anyhow, my friend Lisa turned me on to this blogging thing, and even though there will be a good 5-6 year gap in documenting the boys lives, I'm gonna give it a shot. At least they don't have to fight over who gets this scrapbook when I die.
