Thanks to another donation this afternoon, the pledges are up to $765.00. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
As I mentioned last week, my two sisters and I have a friendly competition to see who can raise the most money for the walk. Here is the standing:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cindy $190.00 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori $385.00 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karen $765.00 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Either way you slice it, our Mom would have been so proud of what we have raised so far, and will continue to raise together. (And she would have gotten a kick on how we're being competitve about it.) Don't get me wrong, I like being in the lead. This has been a nice boost to my competitive spirit.
Thanks to my brother Curtis, there is a correction to the donation total. It is now $675.00. Thank you Curtis. See you at the finish line! Oh by the way, here is his calculation.
5k = 3.1mi = 16,368 ft = 1.6368 feet per step = 10,000 steps @ .01 per step = $100.
5k = 3.1mi = 16,368 ft = 1.6368 feet per step = 10,000 steps @ .01 per step = $100.
Thank you again to everyone who has donated to the Revlon 5k run/walk for women's cancers. So far, the pledges I received have totaled $540.00.
It will be my honor to walk for the following:
In Honor Of:
Carol Schablow (requested by Kathy & Scott Gibson)
Shirley Charnell (requested by Corlen Charnell)
Cienna Jaramillo (requested by Mary Lee & Shelley Sykes)
Our Cousin, Patty Mock (Karen Dionne, Lori Aguirre, Cynthia Justus, Randall Certain)
In Memory Of:
Our Mother, Elta Murdock (Karen Dionne, Lori Aguirre, Cynthia Justus, Randall Certain)
Beverly Duke (requested by Kathy & Scott Gibson)
Alaina Andrews (requested by Shelley Sykes)
Betty Baca (requested by Mary Lee)
Please check out the link on the left side of the page for the Revlon 5k Run/Walk to monitor the pledge progression.
As well, there is a COOL link to the walk route on Google Earth. You must have Google Earth installed to view this file. If you are able to view this using Google Earth, when you open this for the first time, under Temporary Places, there will be a blue link called Revlon Run/Walk for Women. If you click this link, a photo will appear of our mother. If you click the photo, this will also take you to my donation page. There is also a > Play button, that will fly over the 5k walk route. When exiting Google Earth, it will ask you if you'd like to save this from your Temporary Places to your "Places" permanently.
The finish line is at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliesum. Home of the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics.
Los Angeles Coliseum History: The Olympic Torch
Built prior to the 1932 Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch has since become a vital part of Los Angeles Coliseum history. Even though the 1994 Bay Area earthquake forced many changes to the Coliseum, the Olympic Torch remains a symbol of a storied sporting legacy. It is lit during each and every USC home football game, as it was for each and every Ram and Raider game held in the venerable stadium. It has also been lit many times to celebrate special events, or to mourn the passing of great men and women. In 2002, the Olympic Flame was brought to the Coliseum and used to re-light the Torch on its way to the Salt Lake City Olympics. It was also lit for seven consecutive pays following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, then again following the deaths of California native Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, what had held mass inside Memorial Coliseum back in 1987.
Walking a 5k will be quite an accomplishment. I realized I was in a wheelchair at this time last year due to my stroke. My days were spent in physical therapy learning to walk all over again. I remember being able to walk with a cane for the first time and to stand on my own two feet again at the sink to brush my teeth. I was so thrilled!
Finishing this walk will help me prove to myslf that I can do it. And it's for a great cause.
I'll be joining my sisters Cindy and Lori as we walk in memory of our Mom, Elta Murdock.
p.s. By the way, we are all very competitive too. We're trying to see who can raise the most $$ between the three of us :) Please help me win!!
On a lighter note, here's a little Easter humor.
I signed up to walk in the Revlon 5k for women's cancer today. The most I was able to walk before today was 1 mile. So I went to the gym today and pushed myselfto 1.53 miles in 33 minutes on an incline of 3.5. I was impressed.
Sunday softball in the backyard
Well I picked up a softball after 1-1/2 years of inactivity since I played last. It was a foreign yet familiar feeling. Stepping with my left foot and putting weight on it was odd, but I got back into the groove after a little bit. I was playing "throw" with Brock and Michael, they were doing the catching for me.
You can see the spasticity in my left hand still. The muscles in my left hand and left toes are in constant contraction which is called spasticity.
Today's the day. I woke up this morning and told Michael he was on his own...for cooking breakfast that is. I was not going to repeat what happened last year, which started out while cooking breakfast. So a bowl of oatmeal and a bananna it was!
The day of pampering at the day spa on Friday was fantastic! Sign me up for that anytime!
The weather today is very good. Not great yet, but getting there. The sun is out and it's clear. Spring is just around the corner and I can't wait.
Next weekend, we're heading to Montana for a wedding. I've never been to Montana, so this should be fun.
